India In The Semi-finals: ICC Trophy 2017

After a victory over South Africa, Indian cricket team secured a place in the semi-finals of the ICC Trophy 2017. Shikhar Dhawan and captain Virat Kohli’s partnership of 128 runs was instrumental to India’s win along with the bowlers restricting South Africa’s score to 191 in the first innings.

Kohli remarked that it was probably the best game they had played so far and getting AB de Villiers wicket early on in the innings was crucial as he could always hurt the chances of a low score. It was an opportunity that came their way and they grabbed it. The coordination between the fielders and bowlers was quite remarkable and it led to one wicket after another late in the first innings.

Kohli appreciated Shikhar Dhawan’s intent and perseverance. Dhawan scored his fourth half century in the tournament and third consecutive fifty-plus score.

The match was played at the Oval in London and pitch conditions did not allow the ball to swing much. Player of the Match, Jasprit Bumrah explained the bowling strategy as a basic plan, sticking to a tight line and length and not to give much room to the batsman to score runs. He felt good taking Morris’ wicket and described him as dangerous in the conditions they played in.

South Africa captain AB de Villiers expressed his disappointment not being able to bat as well his team could have. He credited Indian team to be a formidable opponent and hoped that his team played a better game of cricket. He appreciated India’s bowling and called Indian team a better team.

Most likely, India is set to play against Bangladesh in the semi-finals same as the quarter-finals of the 2015 World Cup. Kohli added that there was always a room for improvement and his team had to learn from their mistakes and improve on small points.
