Stars get ‘Booked’; Alia Bhatt, Akshay Kumar, Shraddha Kapoor & Deepika Padukone are some of the names

Did you love watching Parineeta, Devdas, Omkara and Shatranj Ke Khiladi? Indeed you did, but while watching all these amazing movies did you notice one common thing about them, yes all these movies had something in common and that is, they are the video version of the popular literary pieces. While there were rare chances when a movie based upon an imaginary story of a writer and a famous book was enacted for the screen a few time back, it is now a rising trend. Many writers like Chetan Bhagat & Amish Tripathi write books that match the consciousness of the life today and thus movies are made on them.

It was a popular culture in Hollywood but now Bollywood to follows the trails. There were many A-list Hindi celebrities that signed a movie which is to adapt a popular novel. Also, the directors seem to be more interested in making newer versions of their films.

There are many upcoming movies following this trend that involves great actors and directors. For example, Alia Bhatt has signed a movie in which she would be enacting Meghna Gulzar’s adaptation of Harinder S. Sikka’s Calling Sehmat and Deepika Padukone who is all set to portray Rahima Khan aka Sapna Didi, based on a chapter from S Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai.

Books cast a magical spell:

Half Girl friend set

The experts of the Industry state that the rising inclination of the people towards books and the amazing stories that the book tell, which relates to the real life so well is the reason for the rising trend. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, “Literature and the magic of books will never go out of fashion. Be it big stars or top directors, they have all heard of bestsellers and are aware that people have loved a particular piece of literature. If a large number of people have loved a book, it will make a great film too, provided it’s done well.”

There are many mainstream actors who have joined the league. Akshay Kumar has just finished one of his project, Padman, which is a film adaptation of a story from his wife Twinkle Khanna’s book, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad. Whereas, this Friday Shraddha Kapoor-Arjun Kapoor-starrer Half Girlfriend is set for release which is again based on a book by Chetan Bhagat.

It is Challenging:

It is really challenging to make a movie on a literary piece as you need to be extra cautious to do the justice with the story. “It’s not easy to summarize a book into a two-hour film, so you have to pick and choose,” says Half Girlfriend director Mohit Suri. “There is a lot that you need to edit while making sure all the essential points are not lost. It’s like hundreds of people have read the script beforehand. So, you can never know who loved what part from the book.” He added.
