One Week of Yogi Adityanath: 4 Important Steps He Has Taken As UP CM

Yogi Adityanath completed his first week as UP CM yesterday. Ever since he took office on March 19, the 44-year old chief minister has got cracking. He has taken a number of steps to ensure that the state becomes the Uttam Pradesh that the BJP manifesto had promised. Many political analysts have labeled him as divisive. His past remarks have not inspired confidence either. That being said, he is also a very well-known taskmaster and a 5-time MP from Gorakhpur. Here are the four most important steps that the new CM of India’s most populous state took in his first week in office.

  1. Fiscal Clarity: The Yogi has been firm in ensuring that financial improprieties are avoided under his regime. The day he took the oath, on March 19, Yogi Adityanath had asked all of his government’s employees and bureaucrats to declare their incomes along with the details of their properties, including their movable and immovable properties, within 15 days. The details will have to be submitted to the CM secretariat. The government’s employees were also administered an oath of cleanliness and honesty was also administered. The CM has stated that he will act very strictly against corruption.
  2. Say No To Paan Stains: The CM has asked that all manner of paan masala, chewing tobacco and gutkha will be banned from government offices, schools, and hospitals. The decision came after the Yogi went on an inspection drive to the state secretariat and saw the building littered with paan stains.
  3. Ban on Beef and Illegal Slaughterhouses: This was one of the BJP’s stated promised when the party came to power. The Yogi has done exactly that. Illegal abattoirs have been asked to shut shop and it is expected that necessary steps will be taken to enforce the ban. However, there have been reports that many legal establishments selling meat products have been asked to shut shop; one such shop was set alight in a clear case of arson.
  4. Anti-Romeo Drive: The new CM has come down firmly on roadside Romeos. Many such anti-Romeo squads have been roaming the streets to ensure that women are not molested or threatened. While this is a welcome step, vigilantism is not welcome.
