Regional Sheila Dikshit Named Congress CM Candidate for UP Assembly Polls By Fabnewz Team Posted on July 15, 2016 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Reddit Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Congress veteran Sheila Dikshit has served for three terms in Delhi as Chief Minister. Ahead of the assembly polls, Congress has announced Sheila Dikshit as UP chief minister candidate. She is now set to be the party’s Chief Ministerial face in the Uttar Pradesh in the assembly polls which is due next year. Last week, Dikshit told reporters during an interaction with the media at the India Women’s Press Corps: “The challenge is big in Uttar Pradesh, but we will go ahead with confidence. I would be happy if Priyanka Gandhi campaigns in UP. Let the announcement come and then only I will be in a position to comment. But I am ready to do whatever the party wants me to as a foot soldier.” The announcement prompted a deluge of reaction on Tweeter. Some of them are pretty hilarious and worth noting. Makes more sense for Cong to project Raj Babbar as CM face in UP than Sheila Dixit. Election strategist Prashant Kishor had recommended that Dikshit will be playing a major role in the party’s poll campaign in UP as she is a prominent Brahmin face and could help Congress regain the support of the community.
